A Poem

I hope you like this. It is an attempt at a none-rhyming more modern style.

I sat and ate on a park bench

sun and shadow dancing overhead

I was daydreaming as I chewed

when movement turned my gaze outward.

A passing blackbird caught my eye

as he pranced along an invisible path

his quick movements caused me to smile

A passing whim cause me to toss a crumb

I watched it jump back with a start

then leap forward with greed avidity

Several fragments followed the fist

As I passed a contented lunch

by giving some of it away

Eye-portal of soul
mirror of heart
window into hidden working
within hidden mind

Eye-reflector if life
sparker of conflict
holder of secrets
unwillingly shared

Eye-broken yet whole
a universe minuscule
a fire barely checked
one spark from raging
a comforting glow
a raging wrath
only the owner can say

I sing the song

I sing the song of God
With Every moment, I live
Each and every thought I have
Is a thought to him, I give

I sing the song of God
To him, I give sweet praise
To him do I lift my voice
To him my hands I raise

I am the song of God
To him, I lift my hands
I live a song of praise to him
Joining an increasing band

Uncertain Sun

Something that I originally wrote for a poetry contest on Writing.com. I hope you like it.

The sun rose to peek at me
It glared into my eyes
It watched me slowly wake
It pulled its blanket over again

I groused as I got ready
I groused when it began to rain
Lightning gave me the message
I would not go out today

Or maybe I was being in haste
The storm wore itself thin
Soon after breakfast was past
The sun tried to come out again

It still hid behind its veil
As it watched me settle at my desk
I must have bored it though

Another one. Both are originally for contests. Most did not win. I had a real bad time with spelling before Grammarly. Even worse that now.

The darkness of night has started
The light of the sun has parted
The chill of winter has set in

How slow the hours crawl
How deep the shadows fall
The watch for the sun begun

But look! Hope is still here
Up in the sky now so near
The stars still bright and clear

It went away again

Poems for the week

I Dream

I dream with eyes unblinking

I dream with mind unthinking

I watch the world around me

Around me, I see what I see

I live my life with heart unblinking

I commune with soul bleeding

I live a life wild and free

I live a life content to be me
The Hunt

Graceful trolls the beast

Stalking toward the feast

As the sun rises in the east

A huddled creature crouches near

Waiting, trembling with fear

Starts-puts his spirit in gear

An epic chase

An epic race

The drive to live decides the fates

Poems by me.

pouring rain drums the land

a merry careless percussion band

wind-swaying chimes on hand

the wind whistling a plaintive stand

a wild melody both varied and grand

pouring rain drums the land

I sit before a fireplace

I sit and think of the human race

Wondering where we are heading

Where are my people leading

Are we to stand

Are we to fall

Will we rise grand

Will we need to crawl

Will we become more wise

Will we become fools

Will our lifespans rise

will we close our schools

I often pause and think such things

Although it’s not wise to worry

Misery such thoughts brings

New poems

Wrote them as a challenge, but thought I will share them and get some feedback. I’ll also post them on facebook. And maybe share them on writing.net. Enjoy!

Poetry comes fully formed
Born perfect and whole
An idea carefully transformed
Diamond-hard pressured out of coal
Poetry comes fully formed
But hard work makes it whole

nature humbles man
best though man may plan
they come to nothing
the rage of a storm
humbles proud human
he remembers he is small
staring at the wall of rain
rain and wind and rage
into the unblinking eye
spies no mercy in it
